Where to Shop Toxin Free

With so many questions from readers about the “Where to Shop” list, I thought I better get this blog out sooner rather than later!

As I mentioned in my last blog, there certainly are toxic-free options for your home, they are just a little more difficult to find.
There are also not many located in Toronto, so I have included a number of retailers that are located in the states as well.

Cisco Brothers – Creates naturally fire-retardant furniture with organic fibres so no harsh chemicals come into your home. (Sold by ELTE in Toronto)

Simply Green Baby – Sells furniture and baby supplies that are toxic-free and/or organic (Located in Oakville)

The Honest Company – My current favourite non-toxic company. Not only provide toxic-free items for your baby’s room, but also cleaners and body products! (Online store ships to Canada)

Green Sage – This company offers home accessories, bedding, hardware etc. that are non-toxic, recycled, reclaimed, natural, biodegradable, and/or organic. (Online store based in the US)

Green Sofas – Sells furniture that uses non-toxic glues, cushions made from natural materials (soy and latex), and hardwood frames from responsibly managed forests. (Online store based in California)

Ekla Home – This company creates organic furniture using pure non-toxic ingredients, does not apply flame retardants, and uses organic fabrics. (Based in California)

Valiant Design Co. Healthy Home – Last but not least, Valiant Design Co. will be coming out with a toxic-free decorative cushion line in Spring 2014. (Based in Toronto, for sale via this website and etsy.com)

While these options may not be as easy as driving over to your closest big box store to pick up something new for your home, it is definitely worth it to invest a little extra effort to ensure that your home is free of nasty chemicals that can do unbelievable harm to you and your family’s health.

    While there are many product lines out there that are organic, Valiant Design Co.’s lead designer, Sarah Valiant, was very hard pressed to find organic options that didn’t look like a burlap sack or would only appeal to a boho style. With the majority of other designer cushions ranging in price from $75-$250, we strive to delight you with our extremely well priced($65-$85), non-toxic, and beautiful designs.

    The Facts

    The long and short of it is that the majority of us have no idea that the everyday products we use in our home (sofas, beds, kitchen ware, – and yes cushions!) are made with chemically treated fabrics, foams and very toxic glues. These chemicals are absorbed into our skin, and off-gas into the air in our homes.

    Here are just a few of the problems these chemicals can cause:

    • Hormonal Problems

    • Reproductive Disorders

    • Developmental Disorders

    • Cancer

    • Respiratory Issues

    It is so important to start moving away from products that contain toxic chemicals. It not only affects the environment negatively, but also hurts the health of us and our families.

  • I use the grow new hair treatment only on my scalp and massage it for about 5 minutes, then leave it in for 30 minutes. I started to use this product one year ago.
