The Engagement is a great place to start with when determining the look, feel and/or theme of your wedding. Where did you get engaged? In a park? At a vineyard? On a holiday? The location can always give you a few hints as to what you might be able to include in your wedding.
I got engaged at Versailles Gardens just outside of Paris. It was a beautiful day and we were at my favorite place in the world with the palace of Versailles in the background. We were about to have a picnic on the side of the canal when he got down on one knee and presented me with my grandmother’s silver engagement ring box from 1942 (yes, he’s a keeper). Inside was my dream ring. What did I take from this? Well the wedding was going to HAVE to be french inspired, vintage (due to my grandmother’s ring box), and have an air of royal luxury.
A girlfriend of mine (who just happened to be my maid of honour) got engaged at an old park in the city. They both have a love of the history of Toronto so what was their theme? Vintage Toronto of course! Complete with vintage streetcar motifs, a beautiful old Torontonian building for the venue, and invitations inspired by 1940’s posters for Exhibition Place.
Inspiration can come from all over – how you felt on the day of your engagement, where you were and what you did. Blend that all together with things you love and your theme will present itself! You just have to keep an eye out for it.
